Mobile app data paths

AI and data use

Routine organization is local to your device. When an optional app feature uses a network, its request follows a separate path described below.

This page describes the mobile app. Website handling is separate and is covered in the privacy overview.

What stays on your device

The app stores your routine, product shelf, preferences, Routine Snapshot answers, and check-ins on your device by default. A DermaPrivate account is not required. AI keys are stored in secure device storage.

Optional AI Assist: device to Groq

  1. You choose to enable AI Assist and review the information request in the app.
  2. The app narrows the request to information relevant to that AI action and checks authorization before sending.
  3. For the current iOS release settings, the app sends an HTTPS request directly from the device to Groq’s API at api.groq.com/openai/v1/chat/completions. The request includes your key as the Groq authorization credential.

The BYOK request does not pass through a DermaPrivate routine server. Groq receives the approved request and its API credential; Groq’s own terms and data handling apply. AI is optional and does not silently replace your saved routine.

Groq says it retains usage metadata and does not normally retain inference inputs or outputs. It may temporarily log inputs and outputs for service reliability or abuse investigation for up to 30 days; Groq’s data controls describe an organization-level opt-out. DermaPrivate cannot see which Groq data-control setting applies to your account. Read Groq’s current data-handling details ↗ before sending information.

Product catalog updates

The app can check for catalog updates in the background. After a successful check, it waits 24 hours before checking again; a failed check may be tried again on a later app launch. It sends a broad rollout bucket from 0 to 99 to api.dermaprivate.app, not the raw install identifier or your routine. If a newer catalog is available, the app downloads and caches it on the device.

Online product lookup

The app checks its available catalogs and local cache first. If no result is available and you search online, the search text you entered is sent to Open Beauty Facts. A matching response can be cached on your device. Your routine and profile are not included in that product search request.

Retailer links and affiliate labels

Some retailer links in the app may be affiliate links. When a link is marked as affiliate, the app labels it and says DermaPrivate may earn a commission. Whether that applies depends on the individual link. No blanket statement is made that all links are commission-free.

Website data is separate

This page concerns the mobile app. The website does not collect an app key or app routine. For the website’s static files, host requests, and the limits of what has been confirmed about hosting logs, see the privacy overview.
